As i mentioned in my previous blog, art carries 2 meanings if being translated into chinese:美术and艺术。 In fact, art comprises of skills, artifices, technical know-hows and intuitions. Art, in the western countries has actually different definition compared to eastern ideology; but most people mixed up by putting an equal sign between art and 艺术。Our mind sets had been manipulated since young due to our educational system, which consists of eastern and western knowledges.
Before i start elaborating, i would like to clarify this because this is going to be the core of my thought on the topic.
Art DOES NOT EQUAL to 艺术。
艺术is defined as something created by someone that can never be duplicated by another person(one of the common known definition). You can paint a drawing exactly like what Picasso did, but you can never copy the soul of the drawing, the historical value of the masterpiece, the impact the technique has brought to the community. But, you can still called it the art of copycat. Don't you.
Photoshop makes art a lot easier compared to old days. Whatever modification, editing, manipulation, touch up done on a photo is called an art. Whoever insisted no photoshop should be done on a photo is also an art.
Art in photography is simply a possible way to make your object looks better in the eyes of the audience. The argument is being aroused could be caused by the difficulty to enhance the image/quality of a photo. We must admit that photoshop has functions that only require a click of a button whereas in the old days, a photographer may takes days or even weeks to come close to the result. Furthermore, photoshop can do what films can't develop. The world is revolving and culture is evolving, new discovery of a new technique/way to develop film is allowed, why can't photoshop, which does make life simpler get the credit, of being called an art?
Now, you may argue again on the uniqueness of a developed film and a photoshopped photo, which one is more 艺术. It is rather hard to answer the question as both has their own specialties and characteristics. No doubt a photo developed from films is harder to be duplicated or copycat, which in line with the definition of 艺术. Lets think out of the box, is a photo snapped by a 3 year old kids considered an art? Yes indeed. Because that is the perspective from a 3 year old boy, more convincing if he happened to shoot it at the right aperture, shutter speed, exposure etc. It will be only considered as 艺术if the photo taken does carry some weight, i.e.the background of the child, the place he has taken the picture, the motive he does that, implication of the photo etc etc.
Just some thoughts, comments are also welcome... :p

To me, Art is an art. Photoshopped photos are for commercial usage and into some categories of arts. If you are judging two or more pieces of arts in the same category, then they are in the same category. U cant take all and judge in the same way as it is not fair? Does it make sense at all? Does it answer/hit to your topic/passage at all?
